Our Greenhouse plants and seedlings

This is our greenhouse on April 10, 2010. It has been unseasonably hot this spring we have had days in the upper 80's. Our greenhouse is like most a spring and fall early winter house and there is no cooling system. We heat with a small portable propane heater occaisionally but most times we heat with two electric oil filled radiant heaters that are very safe and they have timers. The fan is on a thermostat that will power the fan when it gets too hot in the house. All of our plants are grown as natural as possible but they are not all truly organic. The only fertilizer we use is fish emulsion that also contains seaweed. We put water into containers like laundry bottles and two litre bottles so the chlorine while disipate and the water will be the right temperature so we do not shock the plants. It's best to water in the morning so you do not have too much humidity at night.

GMO Film Project Sizzler

WEBSITE: www.gmofilm.com Today in the United States, by the simple act of feeding ourselves, we unwittingly participate in the largest experiment ever conducted on human beings. Massive agro-chemical companies like Monsanto (Agent Orange) and Dow (Napalm) are feeding us genetically-modified food, GMO's, that have never been fully tested and aren't labeled. This small handful of corporations are tightening their grip on the world's food supply—buying, modifying, and patenting seeds to ensure total control over everything we eat. The GMO Film Project (Untitled) tells the story of a father's discovery of GMO's through the symbolic act of poor Haitian farmers burning seeds in defiance of Monsanto's gift of 475 tons of hybrid corn and vegetable seeds to Haiti shortly after the devastating earthquake. After a journey to Haiti to learn why hungry farmers would burn seeds, the real awakening of what has happened to our food, what we are feeding our families, and what is at stake for the global food supply unfolds in a trip across the United States in search of answers. Are we at a tipping point? Is it time to take back our food? The encroaching darkness of unknown health and environmental risks, seed take over, chemical toxins, and food monopoly meets with the light of a growing resistance of organic farmers, concerned citizens, and a burgeoning movement to take back what we have lost. We still have time to heal the planet, feed the world, and live sustainably. But we have to ...

NightShades: Potato and Tomato

Patti Moreno shows you how she grows her night shade plants, heirloom tomatoes and heirloom potatoes. Visit www.gardengirltv.com This Video is available in all languages in Closed Caption Here is the Full Text NightShades: How to Grow Potato and Tomato (Music Playing) It is late spring and it is a great time to talk about tomato's and potatoes. Both plants are part of the nightshade family and are native to the Americas. In order to grow potatoes, you have to held them with either soil or mulch. The tubers grow above the seed potatoes. And once you start seeing the flowers, you can begin harvesting them. And you can harvest them throughout the fall in temperate conditions. This year I purchased organic seed potato from Maine. And in this bed, I planted a large variety of potatoes, from an old blue variety to a cranberry red variety. I can not wait to start cooking them up. A Tomato is actually a fruit. A tomato is formed wherever you see a cluster of flowers. Tomato seeds need to be started indoors before the last day of frost and planted in your garden in mid-spring. It can take as little as 65 days to begin harvesting tomatoes in early varieties and as late as 95 days to begin harvest in the late tomato varieties. Heirloom tomatoes are some of the best tomatoes you can grow in your garden because of their the tastiest tomatoes you can grow in your garden. Other genetically modified tomatoes are not bred for taste, they are bred for size or color, whereas heirloom ...
